VALE Bob Saunder

As a school community we were able to honour and remember ex Principal Bob Saunder. In accordance with his wishes, on Monday the hearse drove past the school on the way to a private cremation in Ballarat. The school captains, as well as current and past staff, formed a guard of honour and threw rose petals.

On Tuesday a Memorial Service was held to celebrate Bob’s life at Alexandra Oval. I would like to thank the students who served afternoon tea to over two hundred people following the service. The students worked tirelessly and efficiently during the afternoon. Their efforts were greatly appreciated by Bob’s family. The students were Jess Dickson, Melanie Sporton, Jess Anderson, Taylah Heard and Lauren Bowles.

A scholarship fund is being set up in memory of Bob, in lieu of flowers the family asked for donations to be given to Ararat College. Anyone wishing to contribute to this fund can leave donations at the school office.

I was reminded at the funeral of our school’s past Latin motto ‘Nihil Sine Labore’ (Nothing without hard work). It was a fitting epitaph to Bob’s life.
