For organisation, welfare and discipline purposes, the college is divided into year levels and sub schools. This consists of Junior and Senior School with an Assistant Principal overseeing each Sub School. Year Level Leaders are each assisted by a Coordinators.
Ararat College has also developed a broad wellbeing team. This includes multiple Wellbeing Officers, a MHP, Provisional Psychologist and a School Nurse. The Wellbeing team works together to ensure that our students are supported and prepared for the best possible educational and life outcomes. We are also fortunate enough to be have the Doctors in Schools Program at Ararat College. This means we have a Doctor and Practice Nurse attend onsite in a purpose built clinic room.
The College Nurse attends Ararat College four days each fortnight. She is available to offer education regarding health issues on both an informal and a structured level. Students are encouraged to approach the Nurse for assistance on any physical/emotional health issues. They may do this individually or may be referred by teachers/staff with a concern for the student’s well-being.
Our Wellbeing Officers are valuable members of our school’s Health and Wellbeing team who can provide individual support to students. Sometimes students may require additional support, our Wellbeing Officers can identify what support they require and intervene to ensure that they receive it. Needs addressed may include:
risk of disengagement from school
disadvantage or vulnerability
mental health disorders including anxiety and depression
relationship problems, eating disorders, learning problems
substance abuse
parenting issues
managing chronic illness
Any parent or student who feels they could benefit from the services of our Counsellor should contact their Year Level Leader or Coordinator at the College. Students seeing a member of our Wellbeing team are required to be referred by a Year Level Leader, Coordinator, Assistant Principal or the Principal.
Ararat College staff, students and parents/carers will work together to create and sustain safe, supportive learning environments where all students experience success through active participation and engagement in purposeful learning. The school will build strong relationships to nurture resilience and positive self-image.
