Science Department Residents Return

The Science Departments resident insects have been bought back on site after a holiday at my home and have settled in comfortably. I think the staff and students have been surprised at the size they are now as they were around thumbnail size in June.

After donating 6 of each of the insects to the science department at Mount Rowan College, we now have 17 large Stick insects and 8 Spiny Leaf insects left on site. We have found that having these gentle and interesting creatures in the classroom generates interest and a sense of calm for many students.

Sharing resources like this, where possible, allows us to build a strong relationship with other schools. For instance, this has resulted in Mt Rowan College offering to loan some of their resources for one of our upcoming practical experiments. This saves us both time and money and eliminates the need to purchase single use materials.
