ANZAC Day 2018 - Lest We Forget
Ararat Anzac Day Ceremony
I could not have been more proud of the way our School Captains represented our school at the Ararat Anzac Day Ceremony. Both Georgia Jenkins and Katelin McDonald looked fantastic in their school blazers, and both girls carried out their roles as flag bearer and reading of the oath brilliantly.
87 th Legacy ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students at the Shrine
Hosted by Ararat Legacy a full contingent of 50 students from across the Ararat Legacy region attended the 87 th Legacy ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students at the Shrine in Melbourne on Friday, April 20 th, 2018.
Over 50 students and teachers, and legatees from Ararat College, Marian College, Stawell Secondary College, Beaufort Secondary College, Lake Bolac Secondary College and Avoca Primary School joined over 5,000 from across Victoria to pay their respects in commemorating the Anzac Centenary.
This year it was perfect weather for those attending the annual ceremony to remember and give thanks to the men and women whose love of their country and sacrifice in wartime enabling Australians to live in peace and freedom today.
The Governor of Victoria, The Honourable Linda Dessau AM, inspected the Guard of Honour then addressed the students about the importance of remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Governor also recognised the important work Legacy has done over many, many years and still does in the community today with caring for the families of those who served their country.
Wreaths were laid firstly by the Governor and Melbourne Legacy President, Hugh Robertson then followed by student representatives from all the schools in attendance.
Following the service students, teachers and legatees took the opportunity to spend time checking the many exhibits within the Shrine of Remembrance which originally was built as a memorial to men and women of Victoria who served in World War 1, and is now is a memorial to all Australians who served in war.
Ararat Legacy continues to offer this opportunity to our regional students between Year 7 to 10 so they can to be part of the Anzac spirit through funding support by the Victoria Government Veterans Council Grants Program.
