VCAL Food Drive Project

From the 1st of August to the 15th of August, Jess, Libby and Em from VCAL ran a food drive for our school (Ararat College) and two primary schools that were kind enough to join in on the project, which we appreciate! Those schools were Ararat 800 and Ararat West.

On the 15th of August we ran an out of school uniform for the entire school. The only requirement was to bring a non-perishable food item (or as many as you wanted to bring) or money. All money and food was donated to the Salvation Army to help those who are less fortunate.

We thought that the food drive went well however, we would have changed a few things. We found that the bin we had to collect the food got full very quickly (which was an awesome result) and it was quite heavy to take around to all the classrooms. We also had some year levels away because of excursions, so, if we do this project again we would try to plan it on a day that everyone is here. We also had a bit of a problem promoting because some students decided to pull our posters down from around the school. Other than that, we enjoyed running the day and we had great success!

We would like to thank everyone for bringing along canned food and/or money. We raised $148 to donate to the Salvation Army and the food bin was overfull, so it was a great result. We would also like to thank Mr Ellis for helping us organise the project, Barlee Maxwell for helping us take the bin around to all the classes on the out of uniform day and the primary schools that participated in this project, we really appreciate your efforts to donate to the community.
