Year 7 Trip to The Zoo

“5:30 in the morning we had to be getting ready for school. Unbelievable right! By 6:15 we had to be at school to go to the Melbourne ZOO! How fun right! Ok, so it all started when we got on the bus. The sunrise was amazing. Nice green trees, a thick layer of fog on top of them, and a nice orange sky! By the time we got there it was about 9:30. We all had groups - the names were Red Pandas (Mr Ward), Meerkats (Mr Harris), Gorillas (Mr Gatehouse) and Giraffes (Mrs Baxter).”

“Off we went to our first talk. A man took us to the seal enclosure, which was underground, to talk to us about the SOS 10 species. The SOS species are the most endangered 10 animals. We had to decide which animal we would vote to lend our voice to.”

“It was a great learning experience, and the butterflies were good. We went to a few talks. We went to the elephant talk and I learned that elephants are really smart. We also went to the gorilla talk and I learned that gorillas are very territorial. Seals are really good listeners, even better than me! These talks helped us decide which animal we would lend our voice to.”

“At the SOS10 workshop it was so cool - we got to pat a turtle. We learnt about the SOS10 animals. We were given a bag between some groups and had to figure out which SOS10 animal it was. My group was the Baw Baw frog.”

“At the end of the day we went back to the seals and picked which animal we would give our voices to again, because we had learnt more about them throughout the day! At the start of the day I picked seals, but at the end of the day, knowing what happens to sea birds (little penguins) is unbelievable, and I changed my vote. We took the bus home and got home at about 5:30. It was an amazing day!”
